Death (Pete Duel)
Same Character Different Actor (Duel)

I still remember the day Pete died. What a waste!! He was a drilliant actor, who surely would have gone on to other, bigger things if he had lived. We live in such a more enlightened time now when it comes to depression. If only he could have held on awhile longer.
I was too young to remember the show during its first run but was fortunate enough to see several episodes in reruns on cable as an adult. This was a great show. I was very upset when I read on the internet about Pete Duel's death. He was a very handsome and talented young man.
my mom loved peter and had the newspaper articles about his death for 20 years. she still believes his girlfriend killed him and covered it up. unfortunately at that time depression and bi-polar disorders were considered taboo topics as far as actors and other famous people were concerned. the only one that really knows what happened cannot speak for himself but, it1s nice to know that he left a positive impression behind.
As a seven year old Scottish boy from Glasgow , Pete Duels death to me was akin to JF Kennedy dying for many others.
I was so sad then and even at 43now, its great his legacy lives on in TV land and anyone who has Compassion for his fellow man and the Sadness that his death brought to so many.
It appears he was liked by all for the person he was.
After watching Season 1 for first time in many years i realize why i loved him so much as an Actor.
Hope God is looking after you Pete.

It definitely jumped when Pete died and was replaced by Roger Davis. I actually felt bad for Roger that he was put in that position and had to take unnecessary criticism for it. Wonder what would have happened if he had turned it down?
Pete Duel was so damn sexy! What a waste.

The chemistry between Duel and Murphy was great. And the writing was excellent. There's one scene I always remember where Curry is practicing his marksmanship. And he refuses to show the son of a saloon keeper they're working for how to shoot because he didn't want to kid to follow in his footsteps. He hoped the kid would grow in a time when there were no guns. And Murphy has this monologue about how he has to keep being the best because there's always somebody faster out. And the dialogue summed up their situation, the mistakes they'd made, their hopes to leave that life behind, the character's relationship perfectly, the entire arc of the series. And all Duel is doing is reacting to this, but it was perfect.
WOW--Duel died. I sucked up everything I could about it a couple days ago via google.
This show was such a TREAT when I was young. Alias Smith and Jones was broadcast intermittently/irreguarly. But I got Wild Wild West every week. As a pre-adolesecent, I was in on the jokes in WWW, satirical like Get Smart.
But ASAJ was in the much more desired category to me: like I SPY. Hip, moral, tricky, and creative.
AJAJ shot their episodes with some genuine moral conflict in the script, as oppsed to WWW where camp reigned.
Both were good. I'd buy a season of ASAJ on DVD if it existed.
Duel was ahead of his time and painfully aware. His way of thinking about the world had not come in vogue until lately. I believe he's in heaven...RIP Duel and the series

I wish the western encore channel didn't take ASJ off the air.It was one of the best western's on that channel.Love Pete and Ben. I wish Ben would come out to Massachuetts some day. They are my heroes. I do have the first season on dvd. Wish the other seasons would come out now. God Bless Pete. He is surely missed by all is fans. Love ya Pete. Your fan Kathy

I liked this show as a kid. It was kinda like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Pete Duel and Ben Murphy did great jobs playing Hannibel Hayes and Kid Curry. They had such a great rapport. I remember being about 7-Years-Old and whoosh...A new guy was playing Hannibel. Hey, he sounds like the narrator at the beginning of the show. It was Roger Davis, indeed. Roger did a decent job, but I never knew what happened to Pete...and the transition was abrupt. No offense to Roger Davis, The shark jumped when Pete Duel died.
I watched the original series and was completely devastated when Pete commited suicide. I really liked that guy. His character was sexy, funny and you just wanted to get to know him and what was behind that devlish smile. I liked Ben too. I've seen the reruns on Encore and I still get a twinge of "I just don't get why he did it"...
Roger Davis did his best. No need for me to cap on him. In another series I might have liked him too.

I still cannot believe that Pete Duel is dead. I was born in 1990 so I did not know until my mom told me in 2006. He was so cute. I've watched Alias Smith and Jones 3 times before Encore Westerns took it off. I couldn't watch the Roger episodes because I kept thinking about Pete and it was too hard.
Rest in Peace: Peter Duel
