Like probably a lot of people, I unfairly drop this show every time I drop Family Guy, as though it were some package deal. But I caught that Christmas episode, which I thought was genuinely funny. Unlike so much stuff on Seth MacFarlane shows lately (and countless other comedies), this one had genuinely odd religious humor ("You just turned off the sun"), instead of just in-your-face religious jokes, which get so predictable.
Someone here made fun of that Francine Smith vs. Lois Griffin debate, saying they felt sorry for anyone who's ever had a crush on a cartoon character. Some of us feel just a little sorry for anyone who's NEVER had one!
At least American Dad is now the better show.
Whoa Whoa Whoa..Did someone actually comment that "She (Francine) is way hotter than Lois." ???

OMG they are cartoon characters! I mean, I can understand the Ginger/Mary-Anne debate because they were REAL human girls, but I feel damn sorry for the guys who get a thrill from watching animated females.
This show is actually really funny. The first couple of seasons were okay, but now it's starting to hit its stride. Roger the Alien has totally stolen the show, but in a good way. If you're not a big Family Guy fan, then give this show a chance, even if it's another Seth Macfarlane show (he does the voice of Stan Smith and Roger the Alien). Also, the shows have gotten away from the political humor angle, and are becoming more like later Simpsons episodes. Well, that's all. Just watch it with an open mind and you'll get into it.
Since there won't be a Republican in the White House, how about less Stan and more Francine?
I used to like the show til a previous poster pointed out that each episode is essentially Stan expousing some idiotic idea and following it up, while Roger is hatches some mean-spirited scheme. After watching a few shows I realized that critique was spot on, and haven't wanted to see it much since. I can live with the political "satire" as its sometimes funny (yo, right-wingers, get a grip; its just a cartoon!!), and there've been a few episodes I liked (the George Clooney one is one; I can't stand that smug self-important ****). Roger, though, just makes me want to throw him into that Alien Autopsy vid from a few years back.
American Dad escaped me when it was new. My reaction to it was similar to most of what I see here, that it was an unoriginal and hollow Family Guy ripoff. Now that Family Guy has turned to ****, American Dad is a breath of fresh air. The first season had some dud episodes, but I now realize it had more hits than misses, and was a decent show all along. Season 4's premiere "1600 Candles" was excellent.

For those who think American Dad is a show centered around republican bashing, think again. The show is mostly about the Smith family's interactions with one another. No cutaways or incessant pop culture references needed.

Post 2002 Family Guy's liberal agenda is entirely mindless. American Dad's is not; its political humor is more clever and likable. Plus it occasionally takes jabs at both sides.

American Dad is crass-yet-classy, like Family Guy's first seasons. Give it a chance, hatas.
Just when you thought something worse than Family Guy could come along, here we have a mish-mash of that show and political "humor".
This show is just plain stupid and Seth MacFarlane must have been drunk when he came up with it.
Now, my broblem does not exactly lie within Seth polical or religious position. I am Christian and a moderate. I love to hear Jesus and God jokes, but not so much as when they poke fun at them or beleivers. I love the idea of a patriotic parody, but not so much at a show made to poke fun at we who love our country.

Seth may be this and that, and I don't care. But, the thing is, the show has is nothing but a dump of how he feels about something and how everyone else is wrong. I see nothing but his own arrogance every episode.

He should look less at trying to push his political position on others and insulting types of people he doesn't like and more so on making an original episode with good humor. Like family guy used to be.
Although this show is definately not for children, I do like how Francine tries to be a mother instead of a tramp and how Stan hugs his daughter Haley and doesn't constantly berate her despite their opposing political viewpoints. Although the Smiths aren't perfect, their family is something I crave that I didn't have since my parents divorced when I was younger. That's why this show hasn't jumped the shark.
i really like the political humor i guess it does seem a little forced sometimes but still funny none the less
As a devout Southern Baptist Christian, i am truly, TRULY OFFENDED by "American Dad" and the other Godless entertainment that slimes all over the airwaves today. Making fun of Jesus and people of the faith is petty humor for those only smart enough for fart jokes. The O'Reilly Factor, Hannity and Colmes...now their is quality entertainment and it is informative. My 11 year old daughter is not allowed to even utter the words "American Dad", "Family Man" and other generation X garbage. i long for the days of "Leave it to Beaver" and "The Brady Bunch" back when young people actually had respect for each other and their elders. keep watching your stupid, immoral television shows while the rest of us with the ability to think, run this country. i will pray for you poor, poor individuals. God is Good!!!!

you are right about Francine choo choo. She is way hotter than Lois.
When George W. leaves, Stan can blab constantly about how Michael Phelps took down the communist Chineese at the Olympics. Yeah it could be a shark jumper when the democrats take office. Seth will probably fill it with more liberal propiganda. Instead, I propose Francine getting hit with 10 bananna cream pies like Lois did on Family Guy.
