I bet you ten dollars that the actors/producers were angry about the storyline in the pilot of Jack grounding Meg for her first Bandstand appearance like it was the case in 1974 on the "New Dick Van Dyke Show' when there was that sex themed episode because they weren't ready for it at that time.
The grounding in the pilot by Jack to Meg for a Bandstand apperence shows that type of occurrance didn't just happen on tv shows on older networks not later than the early 1990's like the gunfire that took two lives at the Drake diner in Des Moines, IA in 1992 shows that random, senseless violence wasn't just a problem for cities other than Des Moines.
This isn't the first time Dick Clark productions was inaccurate in what they produce because Jack was too strict on Meg because it was past the 1950's on American Dreams because in the pilot Jack grounded Meg for as long as three weeks for a Bandstand apperence because in the 1979 movie 'Birth of the Beatles' Apple records unsuccessfully sued DC productions because of that problem. That type of storyline of that punishment being mentioned quicked the show's cancellation as soon as 2005 like smart-alecky charactors on other tv shows and you can blame it on Dick Clark having diabetes. To get even with Jack being overly protective, Meg should have sued for that type of child abuse to live somewhere else and Jack runs the risk of Meg not going to his funeral.
The episode where Eric the Midget became Eric the Actor was amazing!
this show? jump the shark? really? i couldn't stop fantasizing about brittany snow (talkj about a **** name) and whats-her-name with the big nose - roxanne? they could have made a sandwich with meany day of the week. talk about hotties! then there was little sis - sarah romos - hottie in training. look at her now! wow. untouchable, but nice.
I stopped watching because of all the "race" issues and the hints of a romance between Meg and Nathan. The 60s were about a lot more than race and if the producers/writers hadn't been so concerned with "politically correctness," which was unknown in the '60s, "American Dreams" could have been a great show.
The show started out very strong but either the network or the writers got impatient with the pace and started to rush the storyline too much and that doomed it. And yes, NBC's maddengly inability to stay consistent with it---that doomed it too. You'd get two new episodes, an off week, then and old episode, then another new one, then an off week---who wants to deal with that nonense? Dick Clark's stroke didn't help matters as if he were at 100%, I think he would have fought to keep the show going longer to gain it's traction back. The final blow was when the imbeciles at NBC tried to save the disappointing boxing reality series, "The Contender" by moving it to American Dreams time slot and moving American Dreams to mid-week. That buried it. All in all, a show with a huge amount of promise (even with the historical inaccuracies---hey people, it's just a TV show) was dealt a terrible hand by an inept network. This show could have made it either on a different network or syndicated independently. If the cast and writers could have held things together, they could have re-emerged. It was interesting enough that it should have been a steady top-30 show and lasted Sunday nights like "Murder She Wrote" or other dramas. NBC blew it.
This show was a great series. i loved it. my favorite character was JJ pryor. I would like to catch seasons 2 and 3 on DVD. I hope they release it soon
this show is on of the best shows ever! yea so the events and music are little off, and no offense to history buffs but who cares! i love anything that deals with the 60s and i love meg and roxanne. even patty though she was a spolied brat at times. this show should have never ended.
the Everly brothers were played by IDENTICAL TWINS!!!c'mon, yheru're not twins!
JTS when Eric The Midget from the Howard Stern Show was a special guest star.
When they fixed the younger kid's leg. "Miracle" cure of a character's supposedly permanent disability=automatic JTS.
I absolutley loved this song before it got canceled. I loved coming home and watching it on Sunday nights. I was in love with J.J. The only thing I did not like was the very end. I did not know it was the last episode and I hated it when Meg went off with her boyfriend. Horrible ending... I wish they wouldn't have canceled this show. It is one of my absoulte favorites of all time!
we loved the show..watched as a whole family..think it stepped on too many toes..actually pretty accurate from the Catholic families I've seen..it's sad when "reality" tv takes over the sets instead of a show that will at least get people to "talk about issues"....it was doing really well, so why did they pull it? Did someone with money not like that they were being portrayed accurately?limais
